What a stupid phrase. Whatever the meaning, intention, advice, or intent, it's plain stupid. Unquestioningly futile, ugly, moot. I heard it all thru my childhood years, given by the adults as sage advice meant to enlighten or instruct me, for what I can't recall. Yet each time I listened to the phrase, I ceased what I was doing at the time to pause thoughtfully, reflecting on the advice.
Many years later I replied to noone in particular: “That sucks! Why not?”
